Le Petit Didier
For thirty years, Michel Lepetitdidier has used the name “Le Petit Didier” to discreetly sign a work that is rich, free, and exacting where the expressive nature of the compositions — through the use of handwriting, painting and drawing — is accompanied by the impeccable precision of his graphic and typographic constructions. His total investment, his flawless high standards and his great discretion have, without a doubt, made him the most (un)known Graphic Designer in France!
In order to look back over these thirty years, the book has been organized into three parts. The first part gives an account, through numerous documents — drawings, annotations, correspondence, compositions — of his design and research work. The second is led by Vanina Pinter, art historian and professor of the history and theory of Graphic Design. Her analysis is nourished by a dialogue with Michel Lepetitdidier, along with a number of his clients and collaborators. The third part attempts to show, chronologically, an important selection of Michel Lepetitdidier’s work designed from 1989 to 2021.
This book provides an opportunity to meet and discover a man committed to the design of poetic, sensitive and also useful forms, constantly in search of quality and meaning. It presents exemplary work that testifies to the power and importance of Graphic Design.
